Banking for the People, Credit Unions, Ethical Banking, Online Banking, and Alternatives to Traditional Banks

Beware of traditional banks with all their hidden fees, fines, biases, and high interest rates on loans, but low interest rates when you keep your money there and let them use it for free.  You think its great that they offer you "free checking," but do you think they push this out of the kindness of their hearts?  No, what they fail to tell you is for approximately every $100 you put in their checking reserves, they can legally overextend themselves and loan out 1000 times that amount at high interest rates -- money they don't actually have backed by our government.  They can't do this with money in savings, so they don't encourage citizens to save and, in fact, punish you for putting your money in savings by tacking on tons of fees for keeping your money in savings, while constantly advertising the "free checking" scam.

Credit unions operate much like banks, and deposits in member credit unions are federally insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF).The key difference is credit unions are nonprofit, member-owned cooperatives.  Credit Unions return profits to their members.
