Low-Cost and Free Real Estate

Opportunities exist to acquire low-cost, and sometimes free, real estate from a variety of sources.  Government and private organizations often offer for sale or at auction at low-cost forfeited, excess, or confiscated real estate properties including land, houses, and other buildings and structures for both residential and commercial purposes.

Some homes and land may even be offered free (or virtually free) when you agree to help rejuvenate and stabilize the neighborhood through repairs, by living in the home a minimum number of years, or by meeting other criteria or stipulations.  With the large number of foreclosed properties being held by banks and other financial institutions today, there are also many opportunities to acquire inexpensive real-estate owned (REO).

There are also programs and resources that exist to assist home buyers, owners, and renters with costs associated with owning, living in, or maintaining real estate such as downpayment assistance for graduates, the disadvantaged, seniors, and others, utility assistance, home energy improvements, etc., covered in more depth on our Homelessness & Home Ownership pages.
